WGM Bhakti obtains the title of Men’s International Master

PANJIM: Women Grand Master and Goa Carbon Limited Goodwill Ambassador Bhakti Kulkarni attained one of the highest peaks of her career by obtaining the title of Men’s International Master.
She is currently leading in the Asian Women Chess Championship along with top seeded Dinara Saduakassova (Kazakhstan).
Bhakti reached the coveted mark of 2400 rating when she drew her game with the top seed on Monday. Bhakti, the former Asian and Commonwealth Champion has annexed 4 norms of International Men’s Master whereas only 3 are needed.
It has been proved that Chess is a sport and needs lot of energy like other physical sports. So the world chess federation (FIDE) has separate titles for Men and Women. However few ambitious women may try to win men’s titles too. So after becoming Women Grandmaster, Bhakti the National woman Champion from Margao started her quest for men’s title.
Bhakti, playing at present in China said that she does not want to lose focus from the ongoing Asian Woman Championship and celebrations can wait. She drew with top seeded Dinara in the fourth round.
