PANJIM: With just three days to go before the Lusofonia Games begin, the Peddem Indoor Sports Stadium is yet to be completed. The stadium will host the Table-Tennis competition as well as all the contact sports – Judo, Taekwondo and Wushu.
The stadium still has areas which are being worked on with scaffolding. The staircase and other areas have red gutkha/pan spit stains on them and the Taraflex matting is still being laid on the wooden floors. None of the rooms have been furnished yet and all the rooms i.e. the VIP rooms, the player’s rooms and the official’s room are completely empty.
At a press conference called for by GOA on January 7, Keshav Chandra, CEO Lusofonia Games had said “All the requirements have arrived and will be placed at the respective venues within three days.” However a week later the furniture for the Peddem stadium is yet to arrive.
The official in-charge of the stadium was unavailable for comment but one of the subordinates said “The furniture will all arrive on the January 16, but please confirm with saab”
He also added that “Once the flooring is complete all the equipment will be placed. As of now the Table-Tennis, Judo and Taekwondo equipment has already arrived however Wushu equipment will be arriving on January 18”
