Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim defeated Ambelim Sports Club 3-2 to move into the quarter-finals of 3rd Carmo Dias memorial rolling trophy football tournament organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at church ground, Chinchinim on Wednesday. The winners led 3-1 at half time.
Wilred Leisure started in a whirlwind fashion with Agnelo Martins scoring in the 10th minute through a pass from striker Roy Colaco. Their joy was shortlived as two minutes later, Raymond Cardozo of Ambelim made a solo effort and struck the equalizer, giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper.
Stunned by the equalizer, Wilred Leisure went into the attacking mode and managed to get themselves into the match through the efforts of Savio Fernandes off a cross from Agnelo in the 20th minute to make it 2-1.
In the 28th minute, Agnelo of Wilfred Leisure completed his brace off a well measured cross from Franky Martins.
Changing over, Ambelim managed to reduce the margin through Romeo Fernandes off a cross from Uvalde Fernandes.
Ambelim tried their level best to restore parity but the Wilfred Leisure defense prevented Ambelim from entering into their territory.
Romeo Fernandes of Ambelim, who played a stellar role, was awarded the man-of-the match prize.
