MARGAO: Wilred Leisure Sports Club lived up to the billing to win St Anthony’s UK Super Soccer for the second successive year organized by St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva after slaying Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda 2-0, at DYSA ground, Colva on Sunday.
Wilred Leisure led 1-0 at half time.
Wilred Leisure dominated both the halves and pushed their opponents on the back foot throughout the game.
At the other hand, Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club who failed to functioned as a cohesive unit and today they looked jaded and lacked finishing flair.
Wilred Leisure did not wait for long to broke the deadlock and in the 10th minute striker Sertorio Monteiro bulge the net off pass from Vicky Cardozo.
Crossing over, Wilred Leisure continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and ball possessions with their forwards troubling the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. With time running out, Sertorio Monteiro sealed the rival’s fate when he unleashed a stiff shot which crashed into the net.
Wilred Leisure were richer by Rs 40,000 and a trophy while Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club bagged Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
The following individual prizes were awarded: Best right defender Pascoal Fernandes (Fr Agnel Youth), Promising player Kanchan Khiro (Fr Agnel Youth), Highest scorer Sertorio Monteiro (Wilred), Best goalkeeper of the final John Alphonso (Wilred), Best defender of the final Benju Clemente (Fr Agnel Youth), Best midfielder of the final Peter Pereira (Wilred), Best player of the final Sertorio Monteiro (Wilred) and best player of the final Kanchan Khiro (Fr Agnel Youth).
East Bengal footballer and former international attacking midfielder Alvito D’Cunha was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Xavier Vaz, Cecille Rodrigues, DID Super Mom’s fame and ex-footballer Carmel; Fr Oliver Fernandes, assistant parish priest of Colva church and special invitees Brandon Fernandes and Meldon D’Silva Lusofonia gold medallists (football).
Earlier, Anthony Leo Fernandes, president of St Anthony’s Sports Club welcomed the guest and later proposed a vote of thanks. Jimmy Vaz compered.
