SIRLIM: A hat-trick by Wilson Fernandes, the first in the tournament, helped Cuncolim Union drub Sporting Club 4-0 in 24th All-Goa 8-a-side football tournament at Chinchinim church ground, Saturday.
Cuncolim Union led 2-0 at the breather.
Cuncolim’s Wilson Fernandes scored their first in the 8th minute off a rebound when Davorlim goalkeeper Francisco Colaco failed to collect the ball neatly.
Wilson got his second in the 29th minute. In between, Wilson missed a sitter failing to score with an open goal in front of him. In the second half, however, Wilson got his third, six minutes from end of the second half.
Before Wilson’s third goal, Mairon Fernandes netted for Cuncolim in the 40th minute.
Davorlim tried their best to reduce the margin and made several forays down the rival territory but poor shooting by their forwards let them down.
Cuncolim came up with several runs down Davorlim’s flanks, showing their superiority in the last quarter.
Mairon made the issue safe for Cuncolim 40 minutes into play and Wilson rounded off the tally.
