World Cup fever grips GFDC

PANJIM: The FIFA World Cup fever is in the air and joining the enthusiasm is Goa Football Development Council (GFDC). GFDC chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro informed, "For the first time, we in Goa are trying to use this event to inspire youngsters at our training centers to reach higher goals.

PANJIM: The FIFA World Cup fever is in the air and joining the enthusiasm is Goa Football Development Council (GFDC). 
GFDC chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro informed, “For the first time, we in Goa are trying to use this event to inspire youngsters at our training centers to reach higher goals. Emphasis is on reaching the communities too for the all round development of our State’s official sport.”
The World Cup timings being very inconvenient for school children and also working parents, GFDC with their sponsors Vodafone will be screening the highlights of the matches at all their centers in Goa after the training sessions on Saturday evenings. Various other entertainment programmes have been chalked by GFDC for June 21, June 28, July 5 and July 13. They will also screen the final live. 
“With available technology, GFDC is seeking to bring the game played at the highest level within the grasp of all our trainees to motivate them to aim in that direction. We also want to inculcate a sense of national service in these kids whereby they carry a responsibility of catapulting India into the World Cup,” stated Elvis Gomes, member secretary.
