PANJIM: Goa state swimming (junior and sub junior) team won 8 medals at 33rd Glenmark junior and sub junior National Aquatic Championship, in Bangalore.
The Goan swimmers bagged one gold, three silver and four bronze medals as they ranked 11th at national level competition.
Xavier Dsouza won the gold for Goa in 50 mts backstroke in boys group I with a timing of 27.58 which is new national level meet record, the second and third place was won by Sri Hari N (Karnataka) with a timing of 28.45 and Sandeep Hugar (Madhya Pradesh) with a timing of 29.49, respectively.
Jerry Dmello, Xavier Dsouza, Suman Patil, Mithika Karapurkar, Megan de Almeida (Diving) also won medals for Goa, in their respective categories.
The results are as follows: 100 mts backstroke, boys group I: first place Sri Hari N (karnataka) 1.00.15, second Xavier D’souza (Goa) 1.00.43, Third – Sawan Sansanwal (Madhya Pradesh) -1.02.26
50 mts freestyle, boys group I: first – Rutvik Bhatt (Gujrat) 24.97, second Neel Roy (Maharashtra) 25.06, third –Jerry D’Mello (Goa) 25.07
50 mts freestyle, girls group I: first Shraddha Sudhir (Karnataka) 28.59, second Suman Patil (Goa) 28.70, third Dhuri (Maharashtra) 28.81.
100 mts butterfly, girls group I: first Damini Gowda (Karnataka) 1.04.66, second Trisha Karkhanis (Maharshtra) 1.06.78, third Suman Patil (Goa) 1.07.50
1500 mts freestyle, boys group I: first Sanjay C J (Karnataka) 17.14.80, second Saif Chandna (Karnataka) 17.39.39, third Anurag Singh (Goa) 17.50.88
50 mts freestyle, girls group III: first liyana Nizar (Karanataka) 29.85, second Seeya Bijlani (Maharashtra) 30.31, third Mithika Karapurkar (Goa) 30.38
3 mts spring board diving, girls group III: first Riya Mustare (Maharshtra) 137.50 points, second Megan de Almeida (Goa) 133.20 points, third Moondara Ishpreet Kaur (Madhya Pradesh) 125.20 points.
The Goa state team was led by officials of Goa Swimming Association included swimming coaches Deepak Chhetry and Keshav Naik, team managers Dayanand Patil and Inacio Rapose, diving coach P.Narsimallu, lady mangers Sany Leitao and Priya Fernandes Secretary of GSA Sayed Abdul Majid.
During the event the swimmers participated in various categories like in breaststroke, medley relay, butterfly, freestyle, backstroke, freestyle relay, individual medley, freestyle relay and diving.
