Xetrapal lift Sinquerim Cup

PANJIM: Xetrapal SC defeated FC Siolim 7-6 via tie-breaker to win the Sinquerim Cup, 2nd inter-village football tournament organised by Sinquerim Sports Club, at Chowgule ground, Sinquerim on Sunday.

PANJIM: Xetrapal SC defeated FC Siolim 7-6 via tie-breaker to win the Sinquerim Cup, 2nd inter-village football tournament organised by Sinquerim Sports Club, at Chowgule ground, Sinquerim on Sunday. 
Rajesh Pomburphekar could have given FC Siolim the lead in very 2nd minute of the match with a thunderous volley that went out. 
In the very next minute, Sangam Pednekar had a golden chance to take Xetrapal into the lead but it was well saved by FC Siolim goalkeeper Salil Chari. Vipul Pednekar scored in the 9th minute from close range off a corner to give Xetrapal a half time lead. 
In the 2nd half, FC Siolim went on to attack in full force and in the 79th minute Sushant Vaingankar was given yellow card for reckless tackling in the danger zone which resulted in a penalty which was converted by Pushparaj Mandrekar to make it 1-1.  
As a result the match went into the dreaded penalty shootout. In the tie breaker Melroy D’Souza,  Sangam Pednekar,  Vinay Pednekar,  Pranay Goltekar, Sandesh Vaingankar and Jason Sequeira all converted their spot kicks to give Xetrapal the cup. 
Anant Shet, Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly was the chief guest along with Veena Chodankar, Madhukar Tari, Narendra Tari and Laxman Hadfadkar.  
Other prizes: Best goalkeeper- Salil Chari. Best defender- Sushant Vaingankar, Best striker- Vipul Pednekar, Best half- Anthony Fernandes Player of the tournament, Sangam Pednekar, Housie price- Sagar Shirodkar.
