MAPUSA: Xetrapal Sports Club scored a comfortable 2-0 win over Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club in the GFA’s 2nd Division League match played at Duler ground, here, on Wednesday.
The winners struck once in each half to ensure that they returned home with full three points.
Xetrapal did not waste much time and shot into the lead in the fifth minute of play through Sagar Bathkande, who tapped home the ball from close range.
Had it not been for their keeper Soma Korgaonkar who came with a series out of the blue saves to frustrate the Xetrapal strikers, the score would have been much embarrassing for Vagator.
In the 37th minute of play, Xetrapal almost fired in their second goal however Vaibhav Mayekar failed to score from handshaking distance while a couple of minutes later Vipul Pednekar saw his placing strike kiss the Vagator upright.
On resumption of play, Vipul managed to give Xetrapal a 2-0 lead when he perfectly positioned himself to tap home Vaibhav’s shot from inside the 18-yard box.
Rashiket Salgaocar came close to making it 3-0 for Xetrapal however Vagator keeper came with a brilliant one-to-one save to thwart the move.
In the injury minutes of the match, Vagator PY tried their luck at the goal only to see Tanay Naik and Rudresh Parsenkar shots miss the target narrowly.
