Yachting off Dona Paula; hockey at Peddem

No equipment for rowing with State Association for Nat Games

PANJIM: The yachting event at the 37th National Games will be held off Dona Paula, Hawai Beach, stated Siddharth Satardekar, Director of Competition (Yachting), here on Monday.

“The IOA Technical Committee which inspected the venue has advised us to put up temporary overlays which means tents, beach master, but the most important is the equipment needed like the vessels and rescue and jury boats which will have to be procured in time.

Mr Satardekar pointed out that the purchase order for these crafts had been released in 2019, just before Covid, but when everything got postponed the purchase order was scrapped. The association intends to buy new equipment for the sailors which he said was mandatory if Goa wanted to go for medals.

The Technical Committee visited the venues for rowing, kayaking and canoeing but a final decision is yet to be taken. Mr Hemang Doshi, secretary of the association said the team visited Chapora Jetty, Tirracol, Rachol, Borim and Selaulim.

When asked if the State championships had been held, he said it had not happened because the Association does not have equipment of their own. “We would usually take it on hire from Madhya Pradesh. A discussion on procuring material and importantly what needs to be purchased was conducted with the team from Delhi,” pointed out Mr Satardekar.

The venue for hockey at Peddem, Mapusa, has been finalised.

During the inspections, a few areas of concern were identified that require attention and compliance. The Sports Authority of Goa’s Technical Team assured that they would take necessary actions to comply with the identified areas of concern.
