Yash Fadte and Akanksha Salunke representing Goa Association of Squash at Pune Open Squash tournament 2010 brought laurels winning the U-9 boys and the U-13 girls events respectively.
Yash defeated Tamil Nadu’s No.1 and 2nd seeded Shree Roshan 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 in the finals. Earlier, Yash beat Maharashtra’s No. 1 Adwait Adik 11-4, 13-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6 in a competitive 5-setter semi-finals.
Akanksha won the girls U-13 championship beating 3rd seeded Vridhi Doshi from Indore 11-3, 11-5, 11-7. She had earlier beaten Bombay girl and seeded No. 4 Vedhika Iyer 11-3, 11-3, 11-1.
The other participant from Goa was Yash’s brother Om Fadte.
Meanwhile, the Goa Association will felicitate the players and coach Rehman Sayed on the inauguration of the new squash court at Sports Authority of Goa indoor complex at Chicalim which has been completed in record time with the assistance of Revenue Minister, Jose Philip D’Sousa, Sports Minister, Babu Azgaonkar and Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat.
