AGENCIES, JAIPUR: 18-year-old Yash Fadte, supported by Vimson Group, led by Shivanand Salgaocar, won the 1st Northern Slam Junior Championship 2020, which was held at Jaipur Rajasthan. Yash being the top seed U-19, and India No1, won the tournament without dropping a single game.
This is one of the most prestigious junior squash events in India and over 500 participants were seen this year.
On his way to the final, Yash beat Tarun Mammen(Karnataka No1) 3-0 in the quarter-finals and Jaideep Singh Sethi(Delhi No2) 3-0 in the semi-finals. Fadte defeated Diwakar Singh(U.P No1) 3-0(11-9,11-7,11-3) to clinch the title.
This is the 1st edition of the Northern Slam Championship and is a 5 star tournament and the only tournament bigger than this is the Junior Nationals, which is a 7 star event which Yash won in October last year.
Yash will be playing in the Senior National Championship next week in Chennai. He will then fly to Lille to play in the French Junior Open from February 20 to 23. Soon after that Yash will be heading to England for two months to train and play tournaments.
