MAPUSA: Young Boys of Aradi got the better of Saipem SC by a solitary goal in the semi-finals of the Candolim inter-ward football played at Candolim ground, on Thursday.
In the 3rd minute Deepak Redkar’s header was collected by Saipem keeper Xavier Cardozo. At the other end Paul Cardozo’s shot was pushed to safety by the Aradi keeper Chandan Redkar.
Aradi took the lead when Cajie Colaco set the ball on platter to Shivram Achrekar who lobbed the ball over the onrushing Saipem keeper, 1-0.
Saipem had a chance to get back into the match in the 40th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Aradi’s Vilroy Rego brought down Sameer Pednekar inside the 18-yard box. However Jonathan saw his strike being saved by the Aradi keeper.
