Yogesh hands Sesa victory

The striker scored the all-important goal of the match in the 34th minute

MARGAO: Sesa Football Academy edged past Vasco Sports Club 1-0 in GFA’s Goa Pro League (Relegation) football match, Cuncolim ground, here, on Sunday.
The all-important goal came in the 34th minute when winger Perryson Rebello from the left found Yogesh Kadam in an ideal position and the striker slotted past the rival goalkeeper Francis Fernandes with a deft placement.
Spurred by the success, Sesa intensified their attacks and nearly doubled the lead in the 40th minute but striker Alber Gonsalves blasted wide from hand-shaking distance.
Vasco went all out in search of the equalizer but Nigerian striker Chinedu Emanuel faltered at the crucial moment after he was laid on the platter by Samson Fernandes. Later, hardworking midfielder Aniston Fernandes’ rasping drive was well collected by Sesa goalkeeper Fayaz Shaikh.
Crossing over, a flag kick taken by Agnelo Colaco saw defender Ponif Vaz’s header was cleared at goalline by Agnelo Barreto after Vasco goalkeeper Francis Fernandes was beaten.
Later, Agnelo’s free-kick eluded the rival defence but Alber Gonsalves failed to guide his shot into open goal.
The best chance for Vasco came in the 64th minute when Don Fernandes’ thrown in caught rival defence napping but substitute Rohan Kumble wasted open chance with only rival goalkeeper to beat.
Sesa did guard their lead well to repudiate an equalizer but substitute Gammy Costa ballooned over from close range after picking up pass from Girish Naik.
With time running out, Vasco were desperate for the equalizer but Jerose Oliveira failed to beat the rival goalkeeper after Nigerian Emanuel put him through with a defence splitting pass.
