MAPUSA: Young Boys of Aradi registered a well deserved 3-1 win over St Anthony’s Boys Orda to enter the final of the Friends Circle Soccer Cup, played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Friday.
It was Orda who had the first attempt at the rival goal where a header by Sebastian Gonsalves kissed the horizontal bar.
At the other end, Aradi’s Sudhir Gawas power-packed strike was fisted away by Orda keeper Edwin.
Finally in the 15th minute, Manjunath Gherde tapped the ball into the goal off a cross by Deepak Redkar, 1-0.
Manjunath Gherde doubled the lead for Aradi in the 33rd minute off Caje Colaco assist, 2-0.
Orda managed to pull a goal back in the 40th minute when Sebastian Gonsalves was brought down by Vilroy Rego inside the penalty box. Lyris made no mistake to score from the penalty spot, 2-1.
Ten minutes later, Deepak Redkar dribbled past a host of defenders including the keeper and scored to make it 3-1 for Aradi.
On Thursday, in the first semi-final OZO colts winning run was brought to an end by Brothers of Orda as they registered a 2-0 win.
It was Brothers of Orda that held the upper-hand right from the start and would have taken the lead in the 10th minute but Marvin D’Souza’s strike was brilliantly saved by OZO keeper Xavier Pereira.
However, finally in the 35th minute, Brothers of Orda surged ahead when a stinging strike by Devendra Pednekar slipped from the gloves of OZO keeper Xavier to find the ball roll into the goal, 1-0.
Just two minutes later and OZO should have levelled terms but Shanker Palyankar saw his strike sail over the crossbar.
Devendra Pednekar made it 2-0. Brothers of Orda almost netted their third, but keeper Xavier brilliantly denied Joel Fernandes.
