AGASSAIM: Young Boys of Tonca defeated Portais Sports Club 3-2 in the Goa Football Associations Second Division League match played Agassaim ground, on Friday.
Portais SC started the match on an attacking note while Yong Boys of Tonca marshaLled by Sallu Santos played a rather defensive game.
Young Boys of Tonca almost conceded a goal after the keeper committed a blunder after he came out of his area to clear the ball but the ball was won by Portais SC’s Rankit goal-bound shot went haywire.
Another blunder by the YBT keeper could’ve cost the side but the captain cleared the ball to save his team the blushes.
On the other end, YBT’s Valerian Rodrigues tried a shot from the top of the box but the rival keeper came up with an astonishing save to keep the game level.
YBT defense opened up after a pass from Portais SC striker to Rankit who tried to put away the ball but his shot missed the goal by inches
Later in the 43rd minute, Remedios Vaz sent in a perfect ball to Deepak Chatri who tapped the ball home past the onrushing keeper to open the account for Portais SC.
Struck by reverse the Tonca side regrouped and tried to make a comeback wherein they earned a free kick just before the half-time whistle.
YBT’s Ronalodo Dias calmly headed the ball into the open nets to make it 1-1 before the half-time whistle.
Post resumption rejuvenated Portais SC came back stronger and managed to inflate their lead yet again after they earned a free-kick post Sallu’s attack breaking tackle on Portais striker. Remedios Vaz stepped up to take the set-piece and sent a lovely ball to Deepak Chatri in the 49th minute, who nodded the ball home to make it 2-1.
With barely two minutes more on the clock Young Boys of Tonca clawed back with a swift move from Valerian Rodrigues and Shubham Morajkar, the latter who got the last touch of the ball brilliantly placed the ball past the diving Portais SC keeper making it 2-2.
Later, YBT earned a penalty in the 86th minute after Portais SC defended was found guilty of handling the ball. YBT captain Sallu Santos stepped up and calmly placed the ball on the right side to make it 3-2.
Elsewhere at Quitula ground, Dunes SC thumped Siolim Sodiem Sports and Cultural Club 5-0.
Sylvester Dias (7, 14), Vivek Naik (8), Jaison Fernandes (13, 28) were the goal scorers for the winners.
Siolim Sodiem S&CC fielded only nine players at the start of the match. Siolim Sodiem’s three players were injured during the match which resulted in only six players on the field and thus the match watch called off at the 33rd minute.
At Chicalim ground, Chicalim SC and UYC Bogmalo played out a 1-1 draw. Jerson Punto scored for the Chicalim side in the 32nd minute while Jalvin Miranda made it all square in the 68th minute for Bogmalo.
