MARGAO: Youth of Sarzora Sports Club got the better of Sirlim Sports Club 2-1 to cruise into the semi-finals of Chinchinim Villagers Cup football tournament organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at church ground, Chinchinim, Friday. Youth of Sarzora led 2-0 at the breather.
Youth of Sarzora drew first blood in the 10th minute when Merwyn Fernandes bulged the net off a pass from Jolax Fernandes.
Spurred by the early success, Jolax and Merwyn tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Youth of Sarzora consolidated their lead midway in the first half when Jolax beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stung by the double blows, Sirlim went into an attacking mode with right-back Arron Rodrigues taking pot shots which missed the target narrowly.
Crossing over, Sirlim were the dominant side with their forwards troubling the rival defence with raids but kept squandering them. However, they finally reduced the deficit midway in the second half when Arron Rodrigues picked the ball from Atlee Fernandes and volleyed home.
Arron Rodrigues who played a stellar role for Sirlim was adjudged most valuable player.
