YS Benaulim down Carmona

Young Strikers, Benaulim crushed Carmona Sports Club 3-1 to march into the semi-finals of Curtorim Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Curtorim Gymkhana at Curtorim ground on Wednesday. Benaulim were leading 1-0 at half time.
Benaulim were a dominant lot and enjoyed the lion share of exchanges with midfielder Brandon Fernandes, who recently returned from South Africa, playing a stellar role for Benaulim as he kept his forwards busy with a stream of passes.
Benaulim broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Brandon outpaced the rival defenders and essayed a fine pass to striker Rody Fernandes who punted the ball in.
Stung by the early reverse, Carmona regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp but their efforts were thwarted by Benaulim defenders with neat tackles.
Crossing over, Carmona showed greater urgency and their efforts bore fruit when striker Charles Rodrigues neutralised the lead with a rasping volley.
Stung by the equaliser, Benaulim attacked and made positive forays into the rival penalty. Brandon shot the ball in.
Xamaro Rodriguese drove the last nail into the Carmona coffin at the fag end.
