PANJIM: Zamboll Boys defeated Perpetual Succor Boys (Kurpavaddo) 1-0 in the final to clinch the Our Lady of Pepetual Succor Trophy in the inter-ward football tournament, at Kurpavaddo ground, Cortalim, on Sunday.
Kurpavaddo Boys were favourites to win the final with several experienced players in the team however Zamboll boys took control to stun the rivals.
Kurpavaddo Boys extended pressure from the start through Scuberth but strong defending by Franky and goalkeeping by Savio Paes kept the score blank in the first half.
Crossing ends the match was equally balanced although Perpetual Succor Boys created more pressure but it was Zamboll Boys who scored the match winner through Maclister Paes with 10 minutes to go for the final whistle. In the last few minutes Kurpavaddo Boys tried their level best to find the equaliser but all went in vain.
The chief guest for the final was Fr Diogo M Fernandes, parish priest of St Philip and St James Church, Cortalim, Antonio Vas, ZP member and Hillario Figuereido Sarpanch, VP Cortalim were the guests of honour.
