MADICOTTO-CUNCOLIM: Zico Boys Verna beat Friends Circle of Cuncolim 1-0 and clinched the Maddicotto SC Cup 2nd all-Goa 7-a- side football tournament, organised by Maddicotto Sports Club, Cuncolim at Maddicotto ground on Sunday.
The all-important goal was scored in first half in the 15th minute with a powerful header by Anselem Dias giving no chance to Friends Circle goalkeeper Wasim Khan.
In the second half, Cuncolim team tried their level best to net the equaliser but they couldn’t get past the rival defence as the full time score read 1-0 in favour of Zico Boys.
The winners got Rs 20,000 while the runners-up received Rs 15,000 and a trophy.
Chief Guest Assiz Noronho (Social worker) gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Polita Carneiro (Ward Councillor), Sandeep Naik (ex Footballer), and Vicky Tavares (Social worker).
Following were the individual awards: First goal of the final: Anselem Dias (Zico Boys); Best goalkeeper: Wasim Khan (Friends Circle Cuncolim); Player of the tournament: Anselem Dias (ZicoBoys).
