PANJIM: Zinc Football Academy U-18 team defeated Dempo U-18 team 2-1 at Ella ground, on Saturday, to mark an incredible feat in their history books.
Zinc Football Academy –a CSR intervention of Vedanta-Hindustan Zinc Limited, started the match positively, taking the attack to the opposition in the initial quarter but was made to settle for a goalless score line at the end of the first half.
Both teams went for the win from onset of the second half but it was the team from Udaipur who broke the deadlock late in the 80th minute through an excellent transitional play between Jangminthang, Aman, Riyaz and Ashish who eventually taped the ball home.
However, Dempo FC equalised a minute later to make the game evenly poised going into the final few minutes.
Zinc Football’s Aman Khan, however, had other ideas and left the home side heartbroken after an inch perfect header to seal the match and write a notable achievement in the history of the visitors.
Zinc Football Academy team travelled to Goa on April 5 to play three friendly matches against Super 30 (won 3-0 on 6th April), Dempo FC U18 Team and India U16 National Team probables which is scheduled on April 12.
Zinc Football is a one-of-its-kind grassroots development programme using football as a tool for social and community development and ensuring young kids have a platform to express themselves through football.
