Chhath Puja held at Baina Beach

VASCO: The traditional Chhath Puja was celebrated with great pomp and gaiety by thousands of devotees at Baina Beach, recently.
Chhath is a festival dedicated to Sun God and is celebrated by the North Indians in a big way. Mormugao Municipal Council Councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar, who was present on the occasion, offered ‘Arghya’ to Sun God.
Greeting the devotees, who had gathered on the beach, Salkar said that the Sun was a life giver and the reason for human existence.
He appreciated the fact that while all of us worship the rising Sun, this festival celebrates the setting as well as the rising Sun, where the Sun is offered ‘Arghya’ at sunset and sunrise.
Salkar further appealed to preserve Indian traditions for posterity or else the future generation would be devoid of a culture.
The devotees thanked the Chhatt Puja Seva Samiti and Councillor Salkar, patron of the Samiti, which has been organising the Chhath for the last four years.
