ANJUNA: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim registered an fluent 3-1 win over Milagres Sports Club, Mapusa and entered the quarter-finals of North Goa Mc Dowells’ No 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Anjuna Gymkhana, at Anjuna ground, on Monday.
St Anthony’s SC started the game on positive note and surged ahead in the 23rd minute when Codes well executed free-kick was fisted away by rival goalkeeper however, Dalesh who was lurking inside the rival penalty box made no mistake in punting the ball in much to the delight of Siolim supporters.
Marna team scored the insurance goal in the 30th minute when Dalesh unleashed a snap shot giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper.
Post resumption, Milagres SC were in better light as they troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids and nearly reduced the margin but St Anthony’s goalkeeper came to his side rescue to block rival striker Lesten Martins sorties.
Milagres SC stepped up the pace with Jolen, Lesten and Martins harassing the rival defence but the defenders thwarted them from scoring.
Stephen put the issue beyond doubt with stiff grounder in the 50th minute.
With time running out, Anselm scored the consolation goal at fag end for Mapusa.
