MARGAO: In a horrific act, a mentally compromised girl was brutally gangraped by five accused in a flat at Cansaulim on intervening night of January 22-23. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother with the Fatorda Police, multiple teams were formed and a massive hunt was launched. The police through digital mapping and scientific investigation arrested all the five accused within
two hours.
The heinous crime unfolded when the main accused identified as Adil Algur, (18), from Chicalim, enticed and befriended the mentally unsound girl, abducted her from the Margao KTC bus stand and travelled by bus to Vasco bus stand.
From Vasco bus stand, Adil allegedly made the victim pillion ride the scooter and took her to the Dabolim junction. He then contacted his four accomplices identified as Mohammed Ali Mulla (22) from Mangor Hill-Vasco, Shahzad Shaikh (18) from Khariwaddo, Vasco, Viresh Aguanda, (18) from Vasco and Mohammed Yasir Shaikh (18) from Bogda Vasco, who arrived in a four-wheeler. They then took the victim to a flat in Cansaulım, where Adil allegedly raped the victim, followed by the other accused persons who committed the heinous act by taking advantage of her vulnerable mental condition.
The victim narrated the horrific incident to her mother who later filed a police complaint with the Fatorda Police, who registered an offence under Sections 138, 70(1) and Section 64(1) (k)(m) of BNS Act 2023.
All the accused have been remanded in seven days police custody.
The Fatorda Police immediately informed the South Goa SP Sunita Swant who directed the high technical surveillance at the Margao bus stand and in Cansaulim and launched a massive manhunt. She got the lead which led to the arrest of the five
accused persons.
Multiple raids were conducted with various teams and the vehicle used in committing the offence and five mobile phones have been attached as corroborative evidence into the matter, said SP Sawant.
“We also pressed into service the officials from Finger Print Bureau and the Forensic Team for investigation. The flat owner is being questioned by the Fatorda Police and licences are being checked as to how the place was given out to the accused to commit the crime. The case was finally solved within two hours after the mother lodged a complaint with the Fatorda Police,” said SP

The team comprised Fatorda PI Nathan Almeida, Verna PI Melson Colaco PS, Fatorda LPSI Priyanka Naik, PI Arjun Sangodkar and Quepem PS staff, under the supervision of SDPO Margao, SDPO Vasco, SDPO Quepem and South SP
