CALANGUTE: Nerul Sports Club prevailed over Raia Sporting Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker after the teams played out a goalless draw to move into the semi- finals of Candolim Village Panchayat Cup football tournament organized by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Thursday.
After a cautious start, Nerul dictated terms and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but their forwards were unable to beat rival keeper Cosme Oliveira time and again. The Raia keeper blocked a try from Mukund Agarwadekar in the 10th minute while he saved an Atish shot in the 25th minute.
hanging over, Nerul continued their dominance over Raia but their forwards Atish and Mukund were unable to penetrate into the Raia defence.
Raia created some scoring opportunities but their forwards lacked sharpness in the attack.
Deepraj Sangelkar, Atish Anand, Ritesh Gaonkar and Sainath Kalangutkar converted for Nerul while Maurice Deus, Sockey Cardozo and Remedious found the mark for Raia in the tie-breaker.
