MARGAO: In a bid to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases, the Village Panchayat of Cavelossim conducted a surprise inspection of high-risk areas in Mobor, Cavelossim. The inspection, focused on the fishing jetty where boat repairs and fish loading activities are prevalent, aimed to assess and mitigate potential mosquito breeding grounds.
Sanitary Inspector Jagdeep Bhagat, accompanied by health workers, led the initiative to educate labourers about the crucial role of proper sanitation in preventing diseases like malaria and dengue. The team emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean work environment to reduce the risk of mosquito proliferation.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz issued a stern warning to local business owners, urging them to take immediate and appropriate measures to prevent the outbreak of any diseases in the area. “We will be conducting weekly fogging and spraying operations in potential mosquito breeding sites where poor sanitation is a concern,” Vaz stated, highlighting the panchayat’s commitment to public health.
This development comes amid growing concerns about the spread of vector-borne diseases not just in the coastal belt but across the State. Health experts have long warned about the dangers posed by mosquitoes, which can transmit a variety of vector-borne illnesses.
As part of the health department’s advisory, residents, particularly in areas where there have been such cases in the past have been advised to maintain clean surroundings and not to allow water to stagnate in pots, cans, tyres, coconut shells, discarded items etc as these could be breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
