CALANGUTE: Visitacao Lobo, Domnic Soares, Zacharius Fernandes, Salvador Fernandes (Bardez), Henry Britto, Eustaquo Pereira, Albino Fernandes (Ilhas), Marinho Dias, Tito D’Cunha, Benzinho Fernandes (Quepem), Martin Pires (Ponda), George Rosemond, Arvinder Singh, Socrates Carvalho (Mormugao) and Fortunato Franco, Soccoro Coutinho, Catao Fernandes, Minino Figueredo, Alcantra Baretto, Levino Dais (Salcete) were among the 20 former footballers in their 60s who were felicitated by Goa Veterans Football Club at the hands of chief guest Michael Lobo, MLA in the presence of Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, Kiran Kandolkar, MLA and others at Calangute Association hall, here, Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Michael Lobo lauded the efforts of the former footballers for bringing glory to Goa and India. Lobo also congratulated the Goa Veterans Football Club for recognizing the good works of the former footballers and wished them well in their future endeavours.
The members of outgoing executive committee of the club including Lawrence Gomes, president; Leopold Fernandes, treasurer; Lector Mascarenhas, secretary were among those present.
Meanwhile, Gajanan Kerkar of Calangute was unanimously elected president of the new executive committee of Goa Veterans Football Club for the 2013-15 term at the annual general body meeting at Calangute Association hall, Calangute.
Other executive-committee members – Secretary: Jude Fernandes of Mapusa. Treasurer: Allwyn Fernandes of Calangute. Lavino Rebello, vice-president of Goa Football Association conducted the elections.The elections were conducted in presence of Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado.
Earlier, outgoing secretary Lector Mascarenhas read out the minutes and highlighted the activities of the club.
