Congress all set to welcome dissident

PANJIM: Congress is all set to welcome their dissident- Joaquim Alemao along with his son Yuri into the party-fold ahead of 2022 State Assembly elections.

Joaquim, two-time MLA and former minister, had resigned from Congress after he was denied ticket from Cuncolim Constituency during the last election. The senior leader was then indulged in anti-party activities. 

On the other hand, Yuri, last week resigned from Goa Forward Party, which he had joined in 2018. Before that, Yuri was youth leader of Nationalist Congress party (NCP) and had lost 2017 election from Sanguem. 

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and Goa Desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao took on social media to announce that the Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved joining of father-son duo. 

“I welcome them to our party and hope they will play a big role in strengthening Congress in the days to come,” Rao Tweeted.

The Cuncolim Assembly seat is currently ruled by BJP’s Clafasio Dias.
