MARGAO: Former Ambelim sarpanch Cruz Silva on Wednesday demanded that Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva show concern and come clear on the status of the Velim Church case.
While appreciating the MLA’s concern in respect of the violence at the Duler stadium, Cruz said the Velim MLA should show similar concern vis-a-vis the Velim Church case.
“I demand that our MLA take the issue seriously with Home Minister Manohar Parrikar as the people of Velim constitutency are awaiting to know who was involved in the Velim Church incident and ensure that such incidents don’t occur again,” Cruz said Wednesday.
His apprehensions are that if the case is not solved on a priority, then there are chances of similar incidents taking place at election times in the future, just like it happened in Velim during the last Assembly election . “We have to nip such incidents in the bud. This can be done only if the people are told of the status of the case,” he said.
The infamous Income Tax raid conducted on the Church and the presence of CID personnel at the Church in connection with the same incident had triggered protests and violence in Velim on the eve of the 2012 Assembly polls.
So far, neither has the police come out with the status of the raid on the Church premises by the IT sleuths, nor have investigations into the attack on the CID personnel been completed till date.
