CALANGUTE: Imagine you’re out on bail but you think no end of yourself and take law into your own hands again thinking you’ll get free.
This is what alleged notorious criminal Tarzan Parsekar from Nagoa Bardez perhaps thought when he recently stabbed Calangute youth Ravi Shirodkar 15 times along with his gang members.
Criminal Tarzan Parsekar is likely to also be booked under the stringent National Security Act.
What has shocked even the most hardened Calangutkars is that the ones involved in this crime are Goans in the age group of 18 to 22 years.
Advocate and Human rights crusader Christina Dias said, “When I was a teenager and helping in my family business, I used to shut shop at 11 pm and walk home, sometimes alone. This was in Vasco some 25 years back. But today our villages are not safe for women to walk alone after 8 pm.”
Good values and discipline among the youth of today are lost and they tend to fall prey to the drug dealers operating in the whole of Goa. So first and foremost the drugs entering our Goa should be stopped completely,” Dias said.
“Unemployment rate in Goa is very high and Goan youths are deprived of job opportunities within the state. The unemployment rate in the State is 10.5 per cent which is higher than the national average rate. We see that the Government failed miserably to create job opportunities for Goan youths, they even failed to mould the youths with proper education policies, skill development training, etc to cater human resources of different government departments as well as private companies.
This may be the reason for Goan youths between 15 to 25 to take the wrong step in getting themselves involved in crimes”, Premanand Diukar resident of Calangute and President of a social forum said.
“Some boys from these areas are involved in criminal activities. Policing has also gone down. How are these gangs thriving” said Sudesh Tivrekar a social activist said.
Ravi Harmalkar an active resident of Anjuna said, “This happens when nobody has fear of the system and goons are protected by police and politicians. They don’t fear the police at all. In the coming, future crime will increase drastically and nobody will have control.”
