VASCO: Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and panchas have served an eight-day ultimatum to the PWD (water) department to resolve the water problems faced by residents of four wards in the village.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Borkar alleged that residents of Wards 8, 9, 10 and 11 in Sancoale have been struggling for regular water supply for about eight months, but despite assurance from PWD authorities, the problem is yet to be resolved.
“About 20,000 residents of all four wards are facing problem due to scarcity of PWD water. The PWD should temporarily repair the bore wells till it rectifies the problem and restores regular water supply. If PWD authorities fail to resolve the water problem within eight days, we will be forced to get residents on the streets and confront the PWD officers at Baina,” warned Borkar.
Borkar claimed that in some areas, some houses/buildings were discharging their sewage water in the open, which in turn seeps into the PWD water supply either through valves or through the pipe joints.
He urged the PWD officials to inspect the site and disconnect water supply of those houses/buildings reportedly discharging sewerage water in the open.
Borkar later handed a memorandum to Mohan Naik, technical assistant PWD (water) in the absence of assistant engineer Vishambhar Bhande.
