PANJIM: Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has demanded to waive interest-free loans for students provided by the Goa government and convert them into fellowships and scholarships. The organisation also demanded that liquor outlets within 100 metres of education institutes be shut.
The Goa state chapter of SIO released a ‘Students’ Manifesto’ as part of their demands from political parties to include in their pre-election party manifestoes and also as an awareness campaign amongst the students to think of the students issues before voting for a candidate in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and by-polls.
SIO national general secretary Syed Azharuddin said, “On behalf of the students and youth of India, SIO takes this opportunity to present a Students’ Manifesto before all the political parties for consideration and inclusion in their respective manifesto and agenda.”
Citing the Economic Survey 2017-18, he said, “The proportion of GDP spending on education is just 2.7 percent, which was 3.1 percent in 2012-13.”
