PANJIM: The Tourism Department has warned of action against those shack operators who fail to dismantle their temporary beach shacks and clear the beaches of deck beds and umbrellas. A public notice on Tuesday states that non-removal of the seasonal structures will debar the violator licensees of further allotment.
“All the licensees/shack allottees under the Tourism Policy 2019-22 as well as private restaurants/hotel operators are hereby directed to ensure that all the temporary seasonal structures (beach shack) be removed and no unauthorised deck beds and umbrellas shall be placed on the beaches of Goa,” it states.

“Failure to comply with this direction and in case of any violations namely placement of unauthorised deck beds and umbrellas and non-removal of the beach shacks permitted by the Department of Tourism found on the beaches, all materials shall be confiscated; illegal structures shall be demolished, the violators/licensees shall be debarred from further allotment; security deposit shall be forfeited to Government Treasury without any notice,” it further said.
The department said that additional action shall be initiated as per the other provisions stipulated in the Tourism Policy 2019-22. The private restaurants/hotel operators violating the directions will be liable for action as per provisions under the Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) Act, 2001.
The annual tourist season that commences in October’s first week, ends on May 31 with all beachside temporary structures and other materials set up for the tourists mandatorily to be removed.
