Uncollected waste continues to litter around Curti-Khandepar

Even as Curti-Khandepar panchayat has appointed a contractor to collect and dispose garbage, uncollected waste, especially plastic, is seen at various garbage collection points in the panchayat area.
Prominent among them is the Haveli and Naga Masjid wards. Residents here have accused the panchayat of not taking the matter seriously and claimed that only after media highlights the issue, garbage is cleared.
Even as the panchayat claims that the garbage is collected on time, but one can notice heaps of plastic waste scattered at the garbage collection points, especially in Haveli and Naga Masjid areas.
“It is only after media reports about the issue, garbage disappear. It does not matter whether we complaint to the panchayat or not, the scattered garbage often greets visitors here,” said Vaishnoi Sajan, shopkeeper at Naga Masjid area.
The nullah at Naga Masjid has also become another dumping ground for waste. Littered with plastic and other waste material, the nullah is abundant with sewage water.
Residents claimed that on various occasions they requested the panchyat to act, but nothing has been done.
“I have taken up this issue of nullah which is in a pathetic state. The panchayat had assured us that they will clear and the tendering process to rebuild the nullah was in process. But monsoon is fast approaching and I don’t feel that anything is going to happen,” said a villager.
However, Curti-Khandepar panchayat refused the charge. Newly appointed Sarpanch S Naik said the panchayat does not have sufficient funds to undertake the nullah works and the contractor is assigned the task to clear the garbage.
