Mosquitoes give Pacheco company in Calangute jail

The controversial ex-tourism minister Mickky Pacheco, who finally landed in the police net on Thursday, spent his first night in the police lock-up amid mosquitoes.
Hours after his arrest at about 6.40 pm, Pacheco who is booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and destroying evidence in the death of his ‘close friend’ Nadia Torrado, was shifted to Calangute lock-up at about 10 pm.
Clad in white shirt and white pair of trousers, reliable sources informed Herald, the feeble-looking Benaulim MLA was asked to have his meals, which he turned down. “He slept on the floor without any bed-sheet the whole night. He did not speak a word to anybody. He was told that his movements were being caught in the CCTV cameras fitted around,” revealed the source.
While, Calangute police personnel were stationed around his cell, Crime Branch sleuths too deployed its two guards in the police station and outside the cell.
The legislator was today morning referred to Goa Medical College for a follow-up health check after which he was taken to Margao Sessions Court for remand.
There have been rumours floating that Pacheco was subjected to special treatment and that he was kept in an air-conditioned room instead of jail. When asked the police spokesperson Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Atmaram Deshpande rubbished the rumours.
“I won’t dignify that question with an answer,” was his reply.
He confirmed that Pacheco was treated like any other normal accused.
