North Goa Congress district committee members hold protest on Mhadei issue

MAPUSA: Slogans like Sodche Na Re Sodche Na Jiklya Begyar Sodche Na. Goa government fatin,  Karnataka kode setting, amchi mhadei amka jai, by members of North Goa Congress district committee resonated as they held protest demonstrations against diversion of River Mhadei by Karnataka and create awareness on protecting Mhadei. State president of Shiv Sena, Jitesh Kamat also participated in the protest.

Standing in Tar river, Vijay Bhike former president of North Goa District Congress Committee said, “This is Symbolic protest. Everybody wants Mahdei but for that awareness amongst the people is required to make them understand the need to protect Mhadei. The way blocking the flow of Tar is affecting the river, one should understand what will be the situation when Mhadei river is blocked and diverted. Today the Tar river is polluted and the government have failed to protect it. I appeal people to wake up and unite in this fight to protect the river because power of unity is our strength. This is people’s movement,” Bhike said.

Bhike added that such protest will be held at every river in the State to create awareness amongst the people. The way people came out and together fought for opinion poll, similarly it’s high time that people move out to protect Mhadei.

Shiv Sena State president Jitesh Kamat said that the first effect of Mhadei’s diversion will be seen when Goa’s rivers will go dry. 

“Some people are still unaware of the impact of the diversion of Mhadei. People are already facing the issue of water scarcity, but this government is least bothered about people of Goa. The government has sold out Mhadei for their selfish motives,” another protestor said.
