On Monday, a group of shack owners, led by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, embarked on a march to the Secretariat in Porvorim to address the ongoing Shack Policy issue. Concerns have arisen over misinformation affecting Goa’s tourism and causing delays in shack allotments. MLA Lobo plans to write to the Goa Chief Minister, seeking action against the responsible officer for these complications.
Notably, the State Cabinet had approved the revised Shack Policy for the years 2023-2026, allowing temporary seasonal structures, beach shacks, deck beds, and umbrellas for the current tourist season. The Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, explained that the policy changes were based on suggestions from shack operators.

Under the revised formula, 80% of shacks will be allocated to applicants with a minimum of five years’ experience, while 10% each will go to those with one to four years’ experience and those without prior experience. Additionally, the government removed the age limit of 18 to 60 years for shack applications.
