PANJIM: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has demanded an immediate probe into the alleged land encroachment on government property by a South Goa Zilla Panchayat member at Mullem, Salcette.
Addressing the media State NCP Vice President Trajano D’Mello said that current ZP member and former South Goa ZP chairperson Clafacio Dias who is operating a stone crushing unit with Jolly Metals has encroached into 4310 sq mtrs area in a 8675 sq mtrs property acquired by Water Resource Department.
A complaint was lodged with then chief minister and WRD minister on January 31, 2013 but till date no action has been initiated against him despite a report by the WRD executive engineer pointing out to the encroachment. The report was prepared after a joint inspection by WRD officials, Salcette deputy collector, land survey inspector and mamlatdar and was submitted to the government.
D’Mello demanded that a probe be ordered immediately through Crime Branch against Dias for encroachment on government property.
He said that notices were served on Jolly Metals on September 16, 2015 to demolish the illegal compound wall, stone crusher unit, accessories and shed constructed from the acquired land within 15 days.
“This government is protecting offenders for political consideration and to gain support in Salcette,” D’Mello said.
