PANJIM: The mining affected farmers from Pissurlem and social activist Hanumant Parab has accused the State government of shielding Deputy Superintendent of Police Sagar Ekoskar and Police Inspector Prajyot Phadte, against whom criminal complaints were filed at the Valpoi Police Station, in March, for the alleged unprovoked assault and violence.
Condemning the State government inaction, the farmers demanded that both the police officers be suspended immediately, until inquiries are conducted into their alleged nexus with mining companies and his “abuse of powers” in the assault on activist Parab.

Addressing the media persons, Parab said that the farmers from Pissurlem Village in Sattari Taluka, have been facing immense problems due to siltation of their cultivable fields and on account of the water bodies ravaged by the illegal mining activities in the village.
Recalling how the protesting farmers were booked and assaulted, during their protest in March, Parab said, “The errant police officers are neither suspended nor purportedly facing an inquiry into allegations of assault, despite even directions from the Prime Minister’s Office.”
Parab said, “The PMO had directed the Goa Police to initiate action against DySP Ekoskar and PI Prajyot Fadte for abusing their power.”
The activist also demanded that the government should immediately withdraw the cases filed against him and the protesting farmers, who were arrested under Section 151 of CrPc.
