It’s been over eight months now since the PWD claimed to have begun planning for completion of the work of the Rawanfond Junction. However, the delay has angered the residents of Davorlim and Rawanfond. The residents claim that the unplanned nature of the junction island is posing to be a danger to the people commuting here.
The failed attempts to put the Rawanfond junction traffic circle in place has made the circle into a permanent Truck Terminus of the Politicians for the interstate commercial transport. The half done power house junction is a self declared truck terminus for all the interstate trucks coming from all directions of the state.
The Davorlim village road opens up on to the junction and has become immensely dangerous to the commuters. Almost every day there is one minor or major accident on this junction. People have been demanding rumbler strips or speed breakers at the road coming from Rawanfond. Locals said that all concerned departments are passing the buck to put a speed breaker on the junction. The pot holes on this junction were repaired earlier but the circle continues to be an eyesore for all.
Anand Sawant, a Davorlim local, said that they have been asking authorities for a long time for doing up the junction.
“I have been told that the Public Works Department has been sitting over our demand of doing up the circle for long time,” said Sawant.
Following the collector’s order, the Margao Traffic Police have marked the zone as no parking for heavy vehicles. However, the traffic cell’s attempts to remove the trucks parked inside the island have proved futile.
