BICHOLIM: Noted senior classical singer and Bhajani artiste, Krishna Mashelkar (82), from Bicholim died after a prolonged illness at his residence at Naiknagar-Bicholim on Friday evening.
He was the bhajani legend like Nana Shirgaonkar and used to sing along with him at many bhajani programmes. Born on July 7, 1932, he was the disciple of late Sakharam Buwa Barve, late Manoharbuwa Shirgaobkar, late Govind Joshi, late Sripadbuwa Madye and Pandit V R Athawale.
He had several disciples which also included his son, Rajan. During his career, he performed in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka. He was also the playback singer for All India Radio and Goa Doordarshan. Mashelkar also presented programmes on behalf of Art and Cultural Department.
The final rites will be held on Saturday at a local crematorium. Music lovers from Bicholim have expressed their condolences on his death.
