VASCO: The lawlessness at Vidyanagar/MES Junction and in the interiors has finally caught the attention of the Sancoale Panchayat with the local body decided to send notices to all traders operating illegally at the junction. The Panchayat has also decided to crack down on the traffic rule violators for illegally parking their vehicles at the junction.
The locals complained of illegal parking and repair of trucks at the junction and claimed that this has resulted in illegalities in the form of alcoholism, illegal businesses and unauthorised use of road widening and service road areas.
A resident complained buildings in the locality are discharging sewage and dumping garbage into the open. Members of the Vidyanagar Residents Association complained that all their complaints have fallen on deaf ears for several months. The residents are expecting action by the panchayat against these illegalities.
Sancoale sarpanch Girish Pillai said, “These trucks are parked in open spaces and areas meant for service road and allegations have been levelled against the panchayat of allowing this in return of money. We want to clarify that there are businesses running here without any licences and the parking of vehicles here is illegal. We are going to send notices to all the proprietors to comply with the rules and regulations or else we will shut down their businesses if they fail to do so.”
He said the Panchayat has not benefited from these businesses in form of any trade or commercial licences. “We will write to the police and the local MLA to help the panchayat to take strict action against these violators,” Girish added.
