PANJIM: A 10-day-old girl child was found abandoned next to the memorial of former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar at Miramar on Monday.
The infant was kept in a box. Upon hearing the cries of the baby, the passersby immediately called Panjim police station, and police personnel immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the baby to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Panjim PI Nikhil Palekar said that the baby girl was found near the ‘Samadhi Sthal’ of former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“The girl is responding to the treatment. A probe is on to ascertain the parents of the girl,” he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
However, the non-functioning of CCTV and its hard-disk missing at Miramar has hampered the police probe. This was revealed when police examined the CCTV cameras near the location where the baby was found in an attempt to trace the parents of the child.
Reacting to this, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao tweeted, “Abandoned baby girl and missing hard-disk of CCTV camera at Miramar is direct reflection of BJP government which functions with empty coffers and hollow promises. The entire administration is operating on imagination and guesswork. My prayers for good health of the baby girl.”
