It may be recalled that Furtado had made the statement during a recent people’s agitation at Arossim.

Referring to the mutterings of Jose Maria Furtado, the sarpanch of Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim Panchayat at Arossim where people had gathered together to oppose the second SWR track, Alina, in a press statement said, “On the double-tracking issue or for that matter, on any issue pertaining to the people of my constituency, my sincerity and commitment are beyond any question or doubt.”

The MLA said, “However, I doubt the sincerity of this Cansaulim sarpanch to the people’s cause, for raising the demand for my resignation as MLA. Such relayed instigations are aimed at taking away the right bestowed upon me by the people of my constituency to represent them thereby weakening the cause.”

“With respect to developmental works in Cortalim constituency, it is obvious that the same sarpanch has not yet awoken from his slumber as my works are there for all to see. The works are too many to mention in this press note. I shall soon send this list to the concerned sarpanch with the hope that he too will follow suit and take up works both in his ward and the panchayat levels, which he has not done till date.” Saldanha added.
