Advocate General Devidas Pangam on Monday said that the State government will file a special leave petition before the Supreme Court challenging the order of the High Court of Bombay at Goa quashing and setting aside the reservation notification of five municipal councils.
After meeting the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant at his official residence, Pangam said, “Government has decided to file SLP (special leave petition) before Supreme Court. Our contention is that courts cannot interfere once elections process is on and cases if any, can be filed after the election process is completed. There are several Supreme Court cases in this regard and on this principle we are approaching the Supreme Court.”

To a question, Pangam said that SLP will be filed as early as possible may be within next two to three days so that the election process can continue with respect to five municipal councils.
Earlier BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that the government will challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court while asking opposition parties not to dream of BJP’s defeat.
