I appreciate the installations of two traffic signals at Verna industrial estate highway to Panjim as the area is prone to accidents , with heavy traffic movement throughout the day and night.
However, I have noticed on several occasions the signals that are supposed to provide smooth flow of traffic and road decorum, do not function properly.
I have noticed on several occasions, minor accidents have been caused due to improper messages provided by the signals that give misleading and contradicting signals (as the one captured in the picture on September 4, at 11.47am).
Is this signal displayed correctly, I want to know what the motorist is supposed to do, whether he should stop or go?
This can lead to major accidents, which can result in loss of lives. Who should we blame then?
Concerned authorities should endorse proper functioning of these signals, with regular maintenance.
I have also noticed that in absence of traffic personnel many motorists jump signals without a concern for other motorists and continue even after the red light.
There is also no lane discipline and we often see three or four vehicles jostling to go first.
Of course, many a time there is no place for the pedestrians to walk, as two-wheelers and even four-wheelers go as far as they can.
The highway at Verna has become dangerous with motorists going at high speed and two-wheelers are often seen going on the wrong side of the road after work.
I request that these traffic violators should be booked for unsafe driving as they put other road users and particularly pedestrians at risk.
Sometimes, even pedestrians create dangerous situations when they try to cross wherever they please and emerge suddenly.
It seems everybody knows what is happening and nobody wants to do anything about it!
