The sly neighbour complimented her on her healthy coat and shiny eyes but told her that bushy tails were passé; the in-crowd had shaved tails and didn’t forage for berries. The squirrel promptly shaved her tail and began to imitate her sinister advisor, a rat!
Look around and see how our diabolical rats in power have all but succeeded in not only scalping Goa, but are overtly laying plans to utterly gut her in the near future. Goa needs an upright government to save her from being destroyed completely or even worse, being made an offshoot of Mumbai. I’m sure I speak for all niz Goemkars when I say we demand proper roads, with super strict and fiercely vigilant traffic cops to make sure speed limits and that a 100% fatal accident-free record are both maintained; we want and deserve the best education for children in-house, to prevent them from having to work as touts or drug peddlers; we want basic amenities like clean water, uninterrupted power supply and polite government servants; we don’t want mega tourism projects undermining the sanctity of our sacred motherland, we will not be cajoled into schemes that solely rope in swarms of rabid louts from neighboring states.
We want to see concrete steps that ensure drugs, cheap alcohol and cigarettes don’t make their way to even a single minors’ hands, that weapons of war are never again displayed on our soil lest we unwittingly renege on the deal our pious ancestors made with God that guarantees us peace and prosperity; we want action to ensure that migrants and vagabonds are hustled out of here along with their crime infested shanty towns; to see false red tape wielding officers done away with at all levels, punishing the corrupt mercilessly and promptly; firmly imposing laws that exist but have never been enforced, executing sustainable development equally assigned to even the furthest talukas and undertaken with the peoples concord (in keeping with the ethos that Goa is to remain a verdant oasis) from which her daughters and sons get the maximum benefit; eliminating sinful ventures gradually by massively increasing taxes and diligently using the same to help the state education system.
Above all, I believe our dead but not forgotten ancestors would ask the leaders to begin a revival of religious tourism in this land; where people come to see parents raise their kids not only to invoke good fortune through conventional holiness, piety and devotion, but by divine traits that are imprinted in every Goan’s DNA.. Creativity, innovation, fraternity to all, joyfulness, charity and above all… utilizing every talent and resource to beautify this world and heal its ails. Of course this means ridding the “rats”, convicted felons, gluttons, smugglers, tax evaders, land sharks, alleged rapists et al from the equation.
