VASCO: Under the banner of ‘Swachh Bharat Swachh Goa Abhiyan’ a massive cleanliness drive across Mormugao taluka was held on Monday.
In a similar drive undertaken by the Mormugao Municipal council with the help of 50 labourers provided by the Goa Shipyard limited(GSL), all roads in the Vasco city and other areas of Vasco constituency were swept.
Even the Municipal offices were cleaned on the occasion. Similarly all educational institutions, respective village Panchayat’s under Mormugao taluka, residential areas, social and cultural clubs and other also undertook massive cleanliness drive in their areas to promote ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, and to make people aware about the advantages of cleanliness.
On lines with the nationwide initiative on Swachh Bharat, an extensive cleaning drive was undertaken inside and in areas surrounding all the naval bases in Goa Area on Monday.
The Goa Naval Area, which kick-started the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign from September 17 culminated on October 2 and carried out cleanliness drives, awareness lectures in schools and colleges, tree plantation drives, anti-plastic awareness and garbage segregation drives.
In keeping with the theme of the campaign, various competitions were also conducted which included photography, painting and slogan-writing. The Flag Officer Commanding Goa Naval Area, Rear Admiral Puneet K Bahl, VSM participated and oversaw the activities. All the Naval personnel, including their families enthusiastically participated.
