Foreign tourist numbers not on the decline, says tourism minister

PANJIM: Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said international tourism has not declined in the State despite chartered flights from Russia being cancelled in the last tourism season.

Citing statistics Parulaker said the number of international tourists that visited Goa in the year 2012 was 4,45,935 and the figure recorded for 2014 is 5,13592.
Parulekar told the House that direct revenue to the Tourism Department, which was Rs 1.5 crore in 2011-12 went up to Rs 11.88 crore in 2014-15.
He said 300 hotels, 84 travel agents, 127 water sports operator and 1583 new tourist taxis have been added to the existing numbers, explaining that this indicates that the number of tourists visiting Goa is going up.
