PANJIM: The State government has re-tendered the work for setting up of Cyber Crime Forensic Laboratory-cum-Training Centre in the State, after the Goa Police failed to get any bidder in its previous attempt.
The project, to be set up under the Cyber Crime Prevention Against Women and Children scheme, proposes to comprise of laptops, smart boards, portable forensic work stations, internet enabled forensic software, social media analysis software, password recovery and mobile forensic tools, etc.
With the last date to apply for the second tender scheduled on July 2, the department expects some response this time. “We didn’t get any bidder to our previous tender because of which the department refloated the tender on Thursday. We expect bids this time,” an officer said.
As per the police data, nearly 80 percent of the cyber crime cases have till date remained unsolved owing to lack of required infrastructure and experts.
Once the lab is created for Goa Police, the officer said, it would solve many pending cases while also helping the investigation team to crack down on accused.
“Even those involved in spreading fake text messages, job dupers, etc operating from anywhere in the world would not be away from the clutches of the police once a full-fledged lab is created,” he said adding, “However, we also need expert officers from the field.”
The Central government has approved Rs 1.4 crore for the much awaited cyber lab.
